The Brunch Dish: Braised Pork Chilaquiles at The Bristol
Any restaurant that not only takes reservations for dinner, but for brunch as well, has a special place in my heart. Although I arrived at The Bristol several weekends ago not expecting to need my 10 a.m. reservation slot, the long wooden tables eventually filled up within twenty minutes of my arrival and I was glad I had thought ahead. Surprisingly, I had not given much thought as to what I was going to order for brunch. I only knew that I thankfully was not hung-over and in need of The Bristol's "hangover breakfast" dish. A quick scan through The Bristol's concise menu drew my attention to a Mexican breakfast favorite: chilaquiles. Served with braised pork, salsa verde, cilantro, lime, and a fried egg, I knew I was in for a treat.
When my dish was brought out, I was excited to see that the chilaquiles were served in a bowl, allowing for all the ingredients to mix together into a hearty mash of egg, soggy tortilla chips, and savory pork. Although the chips to other ingredients ratio was a little bit off—too many chips!—all of the components complimented one another perfectly and were all equally the stars of the dish. Between the chilaquiles and the fact that I somehow wasn't charged for my cup of coffee, I cannot recommend The Bristol enough for their tasty and inventive brunch.
