When I heard that Jerry's Sandwiches was offering a special Mardi Gras-themed menu this week, I immediately put their address in my calendar and scheduled a deliciously artery-clogging appointment for myself. Feel free to ignore the muffuletta since it's also listed on the regular menu and go straight for the Fried Shrimp Po' Boy ($12.95). In fact, feel free to ignore everything on the planet and go straight for the Fried Shrimp Po' Boy because that is one seriously well-constructed sandwich. Is the bread warm and substantial with a crispy crust? Yes. Does it lovingly cradle the plentiful and marvelously crispy fried shrimp? Yes. Is it smart to order it "dressed" with sliced pickle, lettuce, tomato, red onion, mayo, and Crystal's hot sauce? It's genius. Now please stop asking questions and get over to Jerry's before they stop serving this menu on Thursday.

If you want to make this an authentic Mardi Gras experience, make your Tuesday even fatter by taking the five-minute walk straight east to Alliance Bakery to inhale either a custard-filled beignet or one of their many flavors of paczki, which are only offered on Monday and Tuesday.
