A Sandwich a Day: Hanger Steak Sandwich at Sushi Samba

Editor's Note: In this great city of ours, one could eat a different sandwich every day of the year--so that's what we'll do. Here's A Sandwich a Day, our daily look at sandwiches around the Windy City. Got a sandwich we should check out? Let us know

It feels a little perverse to order the hanger steak sandwich ($10) from Sushi Samba Rio, which, as the name suggests, is something of a sushi restaurant. Even with waiter's enthusiastic support—he claimed to chow down on this particular sandwich three times a week—I couldn't shake the thought that I was missing out on the whole point of the restaurant.

But you know what? It's best not to waste time thinking too hard about this one. That's relatively easy to do when the sandwich finally arrives and the steak is perfectly cooked to medium-rare and the bread is crisp and tender. The chimichurri gets a little lost in the mix, but that was more than made up for by the chorizo mayonnaise. Sure, it's really a dip for the steak fries, but the sandwich loves it, too. Oh and those steak fries? Crunchy, golden, and yet still pillowy on the inside.
