In English, 'Las Asadas' translates to 'the roasted,' which is a fitting name for this Bucktown hole-in-the-wall that specializes in all things hot off the grill. Las Asadas is a favorite in the northwest neighborhood for its late hours and made-on-the-spot Mexican cuisine. It's hard to go wrong with anything on the menu, but for the purposes of this blog, we'll stick to the torta menu.

As the carne asada torta has already been documented on this blog, we'll focus on another, less meaty menu option: the chile relleno torta ($6.25). Mild relleno peppers are packed with white cheese and deep fried on order. They're then stuffed in a toasted bolillo roll and topped with all the standard Mexican fixings—tomatoes, onions, cilantro, refried beans, lettuce, avocado and more white cheese. Green tomatillo salsa sits on the side, beckoning those who revel in the tongue-burning, nose-running sensations induced by seriously spicy food.
