A Sandwich a Day: Spicy Chicken Sando at Santullo's Eatery
Editor's Note: In this great city of ours, one could eat a different sandwich every day of the year--so that's what we'll do. Here's A Sandwich a Day, our daily look at sandwiches around the Windy City. Got a sandwich we should check out? Let us know

For those who enjoy scarfing down greasy grub to the dulcet tones of Slayer and the like, look no farther than Santullo's Eatery. Located right in the heart of the Wicker Park/Bucktown area, this New York-style pizza joint is known for its blaring metal music and thin-sliced pie that's prime for folding and blotting, as per East Coast custom. That said, its sandwich selection is certainly worth a sampling, and almost everything can be made vegetarian friendly.
The Spicy Chicken Sando ($7.25 a la carte, or $9.25 to add chips and a fountain drink), however, is a sandwich that's comparably sassy to the aforementioned musical samplings blasting through the restaurant's speakers. Customers first choose among Italian, wheat, or pretzel bread (I recommend the pretzel bread—who would choose otherwise?) before it's stuffed to the limit with chunks of roasted chicken, romaine lettuce, tomatoes, and roasted red pepper slices. Spicy mayonnaise is slathered on the toasted bread slices, and spicy pepper jack cheese is melted on top for an extra fiery oomph. The end result isn't intolerably spicy, but it's definitely not for the faint of tolerance. Order with caution.
