A Sandwich a Day: BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich from Robinson's No. 1 Ribs
Located deep within the belly of Union Station is a small outpost of Oak Park's Robinson's No. 1 Ribs (or is Oak Park the outpost? I'm not yet completely familiar with the intricacies of City/Suburb hierarchies). Slid across the counter encased in a styrofoam shell, the BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich ($7.25) is standard order: oversized commercial Kaiser bun, BBQ sauced and fork tender pulled pork, forgettable steak fries, and a side of coleslaw that I promptly dumped atop the pork. I'll grant you that this was steam table-held pork, sweet-more-than-tangy sauce, and mainly-mayo slaw. And sure, attempting to eat this messy affair on a crowded train would more than make me "that guy." But none of this stopped me from polishing off this surprisingly satisfying sandwich in less than five minutes. Next time you find yourself in transportation limbo between trains, that's way more than can be said for the gummy lo mien being served at 65 Chinese next door.
