A Sandwich a Day: Fried Tilapia at Pazzo's Express

Editor's Note: In this great city of ours, one could eat a different sandwich every day of the year--so that's what we'll do. Here's A Sandwich a Day, our daily look at sandwiches around the Windy City. Got a sandwich we should check out? Let us know!

While most people know of Pazzo's on S. Wacker as being an easy place to schedule a suit-and-tie lunch meeting, there's also a little express lunch place tucked away in the beautiful marble courtyard (complete with soothing fountain!). Instead of the $20 entrees served at the grown-up version, Pazzo's Express serves burgers, salads, wraps, and other quick lunch options.

The fried tilapia special ($7) comes on your choice of a pita or roll and is served with pico de gallo, lettuce, and chipotle mayo (avocado is extra). The pico de gallo comes with chunks of spicy giardiniera built in, adding a hot pickled crunch with every bite of this hefty sandwich. At first glance, the tilapia looks a lot like chicken breast, probably due to the thinly breaded crust. Also, since it's fish, that makes it totally okay to eat the rest of the fries jammed into the take-out container. Trust me.
