Happy National Doughnut Day everyone! It's that time of year when all Americans should stop to appreciate (read: eat) the glory that is freshly fried dough glazed with sugar. Here in Chicago, it's also the perfect excuse to admire how much has changed on the doughnut front over the past year. While a few old school shops have been keeping the game going for years (click here to check out 8 places we love) Chicago has never exactly been known as a doughnut town. But thanks to a (very) little shop in River North called the Doughnut Vault, a whole new scene has popped up to celebrate the breakfast treat.
Last week one of Chicago's most successful restauranteurs, Scott Harris, threw his hat in the ring with Glazed and Infused. We decided to stop by the Wicker Park outlet yesterday to sample all 13 varieties currently available (it was the least we could do). That breaks down to eight yeast doughnuts, five cake doughnuts, plus at least one strip of bacon. Check them all out!
