13 Great Chicago Hot Dogs We've Tried in 2012 (So Far)

It's no secret that Chicago cares about its hot dogs. This is not a polite, reverential kind of admiration, but a torrid, mustard-stained love affair, which only grows stronger by the year. And just when I think I've eaten every hot dog, good or bad, in the Chicagoland area, a new place opens or I come across a hidden gem that's been quietly going about its business for years. Which is to say that Chicago's hot dog scene is constantly evolving, and we're all better for it. Case in point: Here are my favorite 13 hot dogs that I devoured for in the first six months of 2012.

Considering how many hot dogs I've already eaten before the ball fell on 2011, most of the major hitters aren't featured here (though, it's a crime I hadn't written about Portillo's before now). But hopefully this will clue you into some hot dogs you may not have tried before. Also, you better believe that I'm going to continue to do my duty for the remainder of 2012, so if you have any suggestions for places I still need to visit, please let me know. And now, on to the hot dogs!
