Every cloud has a silver lining, and in the case of O'Hare International Airport, the only one that immediately comes to mind is Tortas Frontera. You'll still have to wait in long lines to get your ticket and check your luggage; you'll have to remove your shoes, belt, and all the contents of your pockets for the ever-capricious TSA; and you'll fight the urge to impulse buy one of those little wrap pillows. But if you keep it together through it all, you'll be rewarded with one of the finest sandwiches ever sold in an airport.

A recent early flight meant breakfast was in order, and the Egg & Chorizo Torta ($9.00) was just what I needed to cure the airport blues. Scrambled eggs, pork chorizo, poblano rajas, Chihuahua cheese, and avocado are pressed between slices of chewy-crackly bread until the whole thing is compressed into gooey perfection. Paired with a reasonably priced cup of Intelligentsia coffee, this was a breakfast fit for first class. Would I take the Blue Line all the way to O'Hare for one of these sandwiches? Doubtful, but you can bet that the next time I actually arrive two hours before my flight, I'll be spending as much time at Tortas Frontera as possible.
