There's no denying that anything fried (when done right) has a strong chance of being absolutely delicious. But Farmhouse goes one step further by combining delicate Lake Superior smelt ($11 at lunch) with Wisconsin cheddar and challah bread from Red Hen. All concerns about the beer batter and cheddar overpowering the fish were thrown out window after taking the first bite. All flavors meshed wonderfully, but the fat kid in me definitely would have wanted one to two extra smelts to up the ante. Luckily, a cold pint and generous side of mac and cheese solved any qualms I had.
