I am sure Crosby's Kitchen is not the first restaurant to attempt to serve something called a chicken dip ($10)—a variant, I suppose, of the original beef-laden French dip. Still, I doubt any version looks quite like this one. Instead of trying to replicate the thinly sliced beef of the original, this one is basically just a chicken sandwich with a side of chicken jus. This initially worried me. No matter of sauce can save a massive hunk of dry breast meat.
Luckily, the white meat is the opposite of dry. In fact, it's astoundingly tender, and the chicken jus just adds to the juiciness. Sure, you shouldn't expect any fireworks with this one, and I would have loved to see something assertive to wake some of these flavors up. But it's about as successful a chicken sandwich as I can remember having recently.
