A Sandwich a Day: The Chenjeh Wrap at Noon O Kabab
The Chenjeh Wrap ($8.95) at Noon O Kabab is one of the most handsome-looking wraps I've ever ordered. Surgically layered, expertly wrapped, carefully portioned. It was almost too pretty to eat. I filled my memory card just taking pictures of it, started following it on Twitter. Somewhere in the admiration, I remembered I had to eat it, to spoil the grandeur. So essentially, if you feel like going all Tyler Durden beatdown on something beautiful, then consider this wrap to be your Jared Leto.
Technically a Monster Wrap (there's no non-monster alternative), this behemoth consists of tender choice ribeye steak, grilled to a tender medium. It is topped with the fragrant house dill rice, crunchy romaine, red onion, briny Persian pickles, tomato, and the signature sauce, which tasted an awful lot like tahini. It is all wrapped up in a giant pita, served with an excellent housemade garlicky hot sauce on the side.
There is a ton of flavor here, but all those 18-wheelers of ingredients pass through the weigh station of that bitter sauce, and a couple (onions and tomato) don't make it through to the other side. Fine by me, really, though I could have gone with some extra pickles. And a few more pictures. Only available to go.
