If you're looking for meatless options at Crêperie Saint Germain, you could order a colorful beet salad or perhaps sweet potato gnocchi. But this is a crêperie, so naturally, you must order a crêpe! There are always a couple of savory vegetarian crepes on the menu. Over many visits, I've found the crepes themselves are always nicely made, soft with a nice chew, with just a hint of crispiness.
The vegetarienne ($9) is a cornucopia of winter vegetables. Flageolet beans, carrots, turnips, pattypan squash, brussels sprouts, and swiss chard are stuffed into the organic buckwheat and wheat shell. The veggies are sautéed, and then topped with peppered goat cheese and a beurre blanc. My favorite bite of the meal was one that unexpectedly included a pungent clove of garlic, nicely browned and juicy. I kept hoping to unearth another piece of garlic in my crepe, but came up short.
Every crêpe comes with a small side salad, dressed lightly with a sweet balsamic vinaigrette. And the dessert crepes? Those are all vegetarian too. On Sundays, the restaurant offers a special brunch menu, not listed on their website, including crêpes filled with eggs or egg whites.
