Love's is by almost nothing at the corner of Chicago and Halsted. It has a cafeteria-like feel when you walk in and I get the sense they do most of their business through delivery and catering. Well, whatever they're catering, I want to attend, especially if their roast beef panini ($6.75) is any indication of how the rest of their food is.
The juicy, thin-sliced roast beef has a super soft texture without being slippery and doesn't weigh down the thinly sliced and grilled bread. The combo of swiss cheese and chipotle spread give it a really nice tang (there's an option of dijon mustard instead of the chipotle, but that would make for a completely different sandwich; the sauce is paramount here). Caramelized onions sweeten it up and the swiss cheese is melted onto it all. But the real wonder of this sandwich is how it feels physically heavy, but doesn't taste heavy. Substantial and satisfying, but not intense. It just works.
