A Sandwich a Day: Pastrami on Rye at New Holland Brewing, Michigan
If you've made the trek to New Holland Brewing in Holland, Michigan, chances are you're there for the beer. That makes sense. But if the trip up to the stunningly gorgeous lakeside town took awhile, or if you drank one too many of the beers, food will start to sound like a good idea. And you're in luck, because the brewpub offers a solid menu, including a satisfying pastrami on rye ($8.99).
Instead of a gargantuan pastrami that is too big to fit in your mouth, this one is stripped of the theatrics and is all the better for it. Thin slices of salty pastrami are griddled until crispy, and then loaded on rye bread with provolone and Dijon. As you can tell by the picture, the cheese is actually melted. While I would have liked more of the mustard, that can be easily fixed. Unlike the beer, the restaurant isn't worth a long detour, but this will adequately fuel you up to go look at some old school Dutch windmills (I am not kidding).
