Taste of the Nation is one of the best culinary events in Chicago—a fundraiser and party to support Share Our Strength's efforts to end childhood hunger in Illinois and across the country. Guests mingle in Navy Pier's Grand Ballroom while enjoying live music and bidding on silent auction items. More than 70 of Chicago's top chefs and restaurants were represented this year, along with 26 of the city's best mixologists. It's like a never-ending tasting menu of anything you like, and seconds are encouraged.

I tried everything at the event over the course of four hours, and saw trends like lamb sausage (from Avec and Allium) and fresh, compressed and pickled melons (Girl and the Goat, Lula Cafe, Hot Chocolate, Balena). Here are my favorite bites from the party.
