The James Beard Foundation celebrates the Great Lakes region at Union Station. The event features a Violet Hour cocktail reception and dinner menu created by ten James Beard Award nominees, including Chicago's Andrew Zimmerman, Paul Virant, Tony Mantuano, Gale Gand, Chris Pandel, Giuseppe Tentori, and Patrick Fahy. $300 - $350 or $75 for after party only. 500 W. Chicago Food Social

Twenty-five food trucks and restaurants are involved in this year's end of summer event hosted by the West Town Chamber of Commerce. While the food trucks include new and old favorites, we are especially excited for the collection of involved restaurants, such as Longman and Eagle, Big Star, Publican Quality Meats, and Endgrain. $5. 900 N. The Nosh at Wicker Park
Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Nosh continues to add new chefs to its already big lineup. This week, swing by for a sample of Starland, the latest project from chef Theo Gilbert of Ripasso and Terragusto. Lakeview Taco Fest
Saturday, noon to 10 p.m.; Sunday, noon to 9 p.m.
This new event will feature tacos from six Southport corridor restaurants: Café El Tapatio, Crosby's Kitchen, Mystic Celt, The Pony, Toons Bar and Grill, and Taco Joint. Samuel Adams is an event sponsor, so there will be plenty of Sam Adams beer on hand to pair with the creative taco choices. $5. Southport between Addison and Newport; event website

Monday (September 23)

Between Bites
Monday, 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
"Food Firsts" is the theme of the initial event in the Between Bites series, which seeks to bring together storytelling and eating. TWO restaurant hosts and will offer appetizers and wine. The featured readers include Anthony Todd of Chicagoist and Serious Drinks, Heather Sperling of Tasting Table Chicago, and Joe Campagna of The Chicago Food Snob. $20. 1132 W. Grand; event website

Wednesday (September 25)

Independent Spirits Expo
Wednesday, 6:30 to 9 p.m.
The main event of Chicago Craft Spirits Week will take place at the Michigan Avenue Hilton, featuring local and international independent spirits. A (Mostly) Veggie Affair
October 3, 7 to 10 p.m.
Tickets are available now for Green City Market Junior Board's fall fundraiser. Eight chefs will prepare vegetable dishes, while Paul Virant and Bill Kim will cook whole animals. Four of the city's best mixologists will also be on hand to shake up cocktails featuring local spirits and ingredients. $45. 2033 W. North; event website
