Market Harvest at The Chicago French Market
October 10th through 12th
The Chicago French Market is embracing the cooler weather with three days of celebrating the harvest. That includes a cider tasting this evening hosted by Pastoral, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Other restaurants—including Spicy Monkey Soup Co., Oh Olive!, Bello Tea, and Delightful Pastries—will be showcasing fall-themed products. Saturday (October 12th)

Rooting Symposium Dinner at Iron Street Urban Farm

Okay, this one takes some explaining: Akshay Raj Singh Rathore and Ravi Agarwal are teaming up with Collective Cleaners, a local artist collaborative (read more here) to host an event to "engage the diners visually and conceptually with ideas of tradition and innovation in the urban landscape." In other words, chefs including Scott Manley (Table, Donkey, and Stick), Mike Sheerin (Parson's Chicken and Fish), Michelle Garcia (Lucha Dolce), and chef Jyoti Lazzaro, will be cooking with produce from Iron Street Urban Farm. Sunday (October 13th)

Goat Beards & Oath Beers at Parson's Chicken & Fish
Sunday, 2 to 6 p.m.
To celebrate the closing of its outdoor patio, Parson's is hosting a party this Sunday in the afternoon. Along with being the last time for you to play ping pong outdoors this year, Chef Hunter Moore will be roasting goats on the restaurant's outdoor spit. Solemn Oath Brewery will offer beer pairings, and apparently there will be a "new limited edition coozie." Free. 2952 W. Armitage Ave; event website

Beyond: October 23

Chicago Public Media's annual Chef Battle: Dessert Edition
October 23, 7 to 10 p.m.
Tickets are now available for Chicago Public Media's annual Chef Battle. This year the event is focusing on dessert, as five chefs will have to make an offering using Kilogram Teas from Intelligentsia. Chefs include Ben Roche (formerly of MOTO), Dinah Grossman (Cheap Tart), Jonathan Ory (Bad Wolf Coffee), Dana Cree (Blackbird), and Jessica Oloroso (Black Dog Gelato). As always, guests get to taste the dishes and cast a vote for the favorite, while also sampling drinks from Goose Island Beer and Intelligentsia Coffee. $15 general admission, $12 WBEZ members, and $10 students. 900 N North Branch St; event website
