Afternoon Tea: Not Your Aunt Sally's High Tea at Allium in the Four Seasons
Holiday season is upon us and that means it's time for afternoon tea. It's cold outside, so wouldn't you rather be inside listening to live music, sipping tea, and eating a beautiful assortment of sweet and savory treats? Whether it's a family tradition, something new you'd like to try, or just a fun break from holiday shopping, there are plenty of afternoon tea choices around town, many in hotels. Some adhere strictly to British tradition while others are a little more modern. Over the next month or so, I'll check out some fun options, both new and classic, around town so you'll know where to book your holiday tea.

First up, is Allium's Not Your Aunt Sally's High Tea ($39). The restaurant in the Four Seasons doesn't serve tea year-round, but sous chef Jason White revived this tradition for the holiday season, when it's most popular. He wanted to do something a little more modern and fun though, with savory takes on dessert (lobster cannoli and BLT push up) while still maintaining some of the traditional elements of an English tea that people have come to expect (read: scones and finger sandwiches).
I did a little research surrounding the difference between high tea and afternoon tea, and this is definitely not high tea, which would be a working class evening meal, but actually afternoon tea. So I suppose it's aptly named in more ways than one.
Take a peek at the slideshow for what you can expect. The tea will be offered every day from 3 to 5 pm, excluding holidays. Chef White says that depending on how popular tea is, he'll think about reviving it with a new seasonal menu this spring for Easter and Mother's Day.
