One of the best ways to test a restaurant is to order something it is not quite known for, and see what you get. In the land of filets and prime rib, I ordered the tenderloin steak sandwich ($14.95) at Wildfire just to see what it could create between bread.

Even though the meat was cooked more than I requested (I ordered medium rare and got closer to medium well), it maintained its tenderness and wasn't dry. It's topped with lightly sautéed red onions, fresh and lemony arugula, and roasted tomatoes. The tomatoes have hints of garlic and black pepper and pair well with the vibrant, herb-heavy pesto. It all soaks into the soft, lightly toasted bread quickly, and one of my favorite bites was just of the oil-soaked bread. Other than the overcooked meat, the only problem I had was the lack of mozzarella. If it hadn't been promised to me in the description, I probably wouldn't have missed it, but promising me cheese and then not delivering is never a good idea. But, simply put, it's a solid sandwich. If you're not in the mood for a whole steak, the sandwiches are worth checking out.
