How many great tacos are there in Chicago? Well, there are enough that I was able to try a new restaurant or taqueria every week for a year and never come close to exhausting the possibilities. Sure, some were simply mediocre, while others were merely adequate, but occasionally I'd stumble upon a true find.

It's hard to believe how much I ate out in 2012. I probably ate out once a day, where I'd often try three to four different dishes. Then there were the occasions where I'd try one of everything at a restaurant, which immediately added dozens of options to the final tally. I thought putting together the list would be hard, but some very specific dishes jumped right out at me.
River North, the neighborhood just north of the Chicago River, has no shortage of exceptional restaurants. But eating cheaply here is a totally different prospect, one that requires planning and some serious detective skills.
What Big &Little's lacks in technical taco making prowess, it makes up in genuine creativity. No dish or flavor combination is too out there or too bizarre to be transformed into a taco, be it a bánh mì, sweet and sour chicken, or a lamb gyro. And they have lots and lots of options to choose from.

Over the Fourth of July weekend, three friends and I devoted a day to exploring six burger emporiums around Chicago. It was the third time we've embarked on such a journey, and thanks to some better planning and the injection of good old-fashioned patriotism, it was the best one yet.
The burgers at BIG & little's are merely excellent. The hand-formed patties of fresh chuck are grilled to precisely the temperature requested and explode with fresh beef flavor. The foie gras fries, on the other hand, might change your life.
