Few breakfasts excite me more than chilaquiles. While some people head straight for the maple syrup or all of the bacon and eggs in the morning, I crave spice and acid to help wake me up, and this dish gets that done like few others can.
While chef Chris Pandel famously serves up some of the cityʼs most intriguingly meaty fare at dinner, some of the best dishes on the weekend brunch menu are just as hearty. Interspersed with a few sweet dishes, brunch is a showcase for eye-opening foods of a savory persuasion.
Last night, some of the best chefs in Chicago set up shop in Lincoln Park for the Green City Market's Chefs' BBQ Benefit, which helps raise money for educational initiatives at the market. Any restaurant that not only takes reservations for dinner, but for brunch as well, has a special place in my heart. Although I arrived at The Bristol several weekends ago not expecting to need my 10 a.m. reservation slot, the long wooden tables eventually filled up within twenty minutes of my arrival and I was glad I had thought ahead. Surprisingly, I had not given much thought as to what I was going to order for brunch.
