In Chicago, cheese fries are more than a dish you consume after a night out. Whether this is related to Chicago's hot dog stand culture or that chefs here like to elevate simple dishes, I don't know. But I do know that you can find a very wide range of cheese fries here.

We don't want to get all hyperbolic, but we're unsure if any other neighborhood equals Lakeview in the quantity and diversity of its cheap eats. Sure, the Chicago classics are covered, including some of the best examples of burgers, hot dogs, and pizza in the city. But what we love the is the mix of new and old.
Thick cut applewood bacon is coated in a hearty beer batter, fried until said batter reaches a rich mahogany, and finished with a generous cracking of black pepper. The accompanying chipotle mayo is gratuitous, but its spicy kick is addicting nonetheless. The waitress nailed the scent when she compared it to pepperoni pizza, but don't let that deter you.
