Wicker Park is home to a satisfying mix of cuisines, including established stalwarts and an ever expanding list of new projects. Luckily, many of the places are focused on serving the neighborhood, meaning that finding a stunning, and affordable, meal is easy.
'the fifty/50' on Serious Eats
Over the course of a year, I eat more french fries and onion rings than is probably currently legal per person in New York City. But just when potatoes and onions start to weigh me down (literally and figuratively), I come across a deep fried dish that renews my Quixotic quest of slogging through Chicago's fryers.
You may have to chest bump your way through the crowded bar on the weekends or before/during/after The Game, but if you come for lunch or on a regular weeknight, you'll be rewarded with a low-key vibe and some of the better bar food in the area.
Not that I'm complaining, but vegetables aren't exactly the first thing you think of when The Fifty/50 is mentioned. So why did I end up with an order of the vegetable panini ($9) while watching the Blackhawks a few nights ago?
