Nothing will make dad feel better than some great drinks and a touch of comfort food. Here are three spots that'll fit the bill for Father's Day in Chicago.

Kuma's Corner

Kuma's is so hardcore that owner Mike Cain won't hire anyone unless they have at least one tattoo. That hardcore-nature seeps through to their incredibly deep beer list and perfect burgers. Given the chance to sup here, we'd probably go with the Moylan's Kilt Lifter Scotch Ale, a rich malty brew which should cut nicely through a big fat juicy Kuma Burger, a 10-ounce patty topped with bacon, cheddar, a fried egg and nestled in a toasted pretzel roll. 2900 W Belmont Avenue, Chicago, IL 60618 (at N Francisco Avenue; map); 773-604-8769; opens at noon on Sunday, kumas-corner.com

Hopleaf Bar

Everyone knows it's tough to fly the friendly skies when you have rugrats. So if you've been hankering for a trip to Belgium, but the kids got you grounded, the next best bet is to hit up the wood paneled lair of Hopleaf, which features Chicago's best Belgian beer selection. Don't miss the creamy bronze Bosteels Tripel Karmeliet inspired by the Carmelite Brotherhood of Dendermonde. Use that fat goblet of suds to wash down a fresh batch of beer steamed mussels and crispy salted frites with a side of Vampire killing garlic aioli. Just for kicks, don't forget to hook dad up with a side of the Kurobuta pork belly with radish fennel slaw. 5148 N Clark Street, Chicago, IL 60640 (near W Foster Avenue; map), 773-334-9851; opens Sunday at 3 p.m., kitchen at 5 p.m.; hopleaf.com

The Gage

There's plenty of beer at Chicago's premiere downtown gastropub, but we know our dad would prefer the Maker's Mark Manhattan infused with blood orange bitters and brandied cherries. Assuming your pops has just had a clean cardio-check-up, don't forget to order him a selection of chef Dirk Flanigan's bar snacks, including the sausage enrobed deep-fried Scotch egg, his creamy fried chicken livers with spicy mustard, and the mouth-searing mussels vindaloo. 24 S Michigan Avenue, Chicago, IL 60603 (near E Madison Street; map), 312-372-4243; open 10 a.m. on Sunday; thegagechicago.com
