When Serious Eats founder Ed Levine first brought up the idea of a launch party in Chicago, I immediately saw through his ruse. Sure, there was a brand new site to celebrate, along with a recently released Serious Eats Book. But I knew that the main reason was so that he would have an excuse to get as many of his favorite Chicago restaurants together in the same room. Picking one was an impossibility, but our preliminary list quickly grew to the point where there were almost as many restaurants as potential guests.
After some very tough decision making, the both of us decided to feature just a few of our favorites that also happened to be in the book: Hoosier Mama Pie Company, Great Lake, Honey 1 BBQ, and Hot Chocolate. We were lucky enough to find Room Service in Andersonville to host the event. And, since every party needs something to drink, we were also lucky to rope in three great beverage companies, Vinejoy, BlueCoat Gin, and Q Tonic.
As you can probably imagine, no one left hungry. Those that even tried were sent home with handfuls shortbread cookies and rib tips. Check out the slideshow to see just a few of the delicious things that were available last night.
