Not that I'm complaining, but vegetables aren't exactly the first thing you think of when The Fifty/50 is mentioned. So why did I end up with an order of the vegetable panini ($9) while watching the Blackhawks a few nights ago? Mostly I was just intrigued. Veggie sandwiches are particularly hard to get right, as too many ingredients can lead to an overloaded mess. Could The Fifty/50 pull it off?
To be sure, there are a lot of ingredients utilized here: roasted eggplant, zucchini, peppers, sliced pear, swiss cheese, and garlic marinara all make an appearance. And yet, they all manage to work together thanks to some thin slicing. I particularly liked the addition of the pear, which added some much needed sweetness. Plus, sweet potato fries on the side are always a plus.
