Here's the deal the with Alan Richman: he's contrary. That's just his thing. To this day, we have no idea which side of the argument he is going to be on. For every article he pens about hating Chicago-style hot dogs, he then gets on our good side by declaring that Great Lake serves the best pizza in the country. Which is all a way of saying that you have to take the good with the bad. Luckily, today it's good news.
His Ten Best New Restaurants in America in the latest GQ features not one but two Chicago restaurants, and they are picks we wholeheartedly agree with. At Next (#3), Executive Chef Dave Beran has proven himself capable of preparing everything from old-school French food (oh, that roast duck!) to one absolutely hilarious burger. Ruxbin (#9) is far different, but no less impressive. Chef Edward Kim is as adept at kicking out vegetarian food as he is innovative desserts. Plus, it's a great place to take a date. Well done.
