In spite of my desire to expand my Vietnamese palate, the familiar flavors of phở are still crave-inducing. So after Roger's mouthwatering write-up of Pho 777, I knew a trip to Argyle Street wouldn't be far off. Some basic LTHForum reconnaissance led me to Nhà Hàng Việt Nam. I was intrigued by a picture in the post of Cánh Gà Sốt Me ($5.50), or "deep fried chicken wings marinated with fish sauce." #29 and #30 on the menu feature this same description, but our server steered us toward #30.

I know even less about Asian chicken wings (my heart belongs to Buffalo) than I do about Vietnamese food. But maybe it's time for a crash course. The wings were crispy, with the skin achieving the crackly, fat-rendering induced texture most wing places screw up. Beyond the fish sauce, I detected garlic, sambal oelek, and lime juice, but I'll never really know for sure. What I do know is that it's high time I spread my wings (oops) and move beyond Frank's and butter. How about it, Chicago Serious Eaters? Where do you go for Asian chicken wings?
