A Sandwich a Day: Pulled Pork Pita at Skewerz
Reviews of Chicago sandwiches.
Editor's Note: In this great city of ours, one could eat a different sandwich every day of the year--so that's what we'll do. Here's A Sandwich a Day, our daily look at sandwiches around the Windy City. Got a sandwich we should check out? Let us know

In my opinion, there are only two kinds of meat: pulled pork and everything else that's not pulled pork. What's not to love? Cooked right, the meat is succulent and flavorful without being too fatty. And because the dish is a staple in multiple cultures around the world and can be prepared with a variety of spice rubs, no pulled pork experience is exactly the same.
As for Chicago restaurants pulling that meat from the bone, Wicker Park's Skewerz puts a Hawaiian/South Pacific twist on its version, blending sweet, citrus, and spicy flavors together for bite after mouthwatering bite. For the pulled pork pita ($4.50), grilled flatbread is stuffed with romaine lettuce, Roma tomatoes, and heaps of pulled pork. A little grapeseed oil and lime juice are then drizzled over the top, along with a red curry peanut sauce. The sauce adds a complexly sweet and moderately spicy kick that compliments the other citrus flavors. All that's left are a few dashes of salt and pepper for some extra seasoning.
