Last night Sarah Grueneberg, Spiaggia's executive chef and Top Chef: Texas runner-up, faced off against her Houston-based mentor Chris Shepherd, in what was called the H-Town vs. Chi-Town Quickfire Challenge. (The event was sponsored by the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau.) Shepherd, who now runs Underbelly in Houston, first hired Grueneberg out of culinary school in Houston, and the two traded jokes throughout the "competition." In the end it was mostly just a good-natured event where I don't believe a winner was ever crowned.
It was, however, a good chance to sample Grueneberg's food and to see what Shepherd is currently cooking up in Houston. Check out the slideshow from the event to see what you missed.
