The latest happenings around Chicago.

Want to watch me make a fool of myself while simultaneously supporting Share Our Strength's cause to end childhood hunger? Well, October 1st is your chance. That's when Sono Wood Fired Pizzeria hosts its first annual Big Palate Challenge, where I'll be battling six other food writers and editors to see how many ingredients I can correctly identify blindfolded in 30 minutes.

The competition is particularly tough and includes Anthony Todd (Chicagoist), Huge Galdones (Galdones Photography and regular SE contributor), Michael Gebert (Grub Street Chicago), Chandra Ram (Plate Magazine), Heather Sperling (TastingTable Chicago), and Tatiana Abramova (TheBrideScoop).

Tickets are $20, and you can purchase them on Eventbrite. All the proceeds benefit Share Our Strength. Oh, and that price also includes wine, beer, passed apps, and the chance to watch me embarrass myself. Kind of a deal, right? The full details are below.
