Tips and tricks for making the best sandwiches at home.
It's no secret that we love sandwiches here at Serious Eats Chicago. Why else would we write about one every single week day? But we were truly interested to see what Chicago Magazine had to say about the scene with its epic list of the The 50 Best Sandwiches in Chicago. Considering we've already written about 243 (!) sandwiches in the city, we have covered a good chunk of these. But what's surprising is how many we still need to check out.
That's especially true of the magazine's number one pick, the BLT at the Old Oak Tap, which we're going to have to sample ASAP. However, we were all over the Fried Bologna sandwich at Au Cheval (#2), and the Woodland Mushroom torta at Xoco (#3).
Of course, we could spend more time talking about the sandwiches that didn't make the cut. Specifically, no Italian subs were included, even if Bari's meatball sub (#16) did. And we especially don't agree with the assessment that the Italian beef is a "spongy grease bomb" unworthy of inclusion.
