For the latest round of Staff Picks, contributors were asked to name their favorite chicken dish in the city. It seemed liked an easy question, one that would showcase the protein's rise in stature on menus around town. It is our humble opinion that the days of safe and boring chicken dishes—you know, when one just had to be on the menu to appease the picky—are over. Sure some of those preparations are out there, but chicken now has the chance to appear in the limelight with the other big proteins—just so long as it steps up its game. This is no place for dry chicken breasts or bland preparations.
Turns out, there are almost too many options to comprehend. Contributors wrestled with the idea of what dish they should go with. (One simply couldn't deal with the mind numbing array of possibilities and decided to bow out.) Which is to say that these picks became personal, and, for that matter, mostly fried. These picks showcase how chicken is being transformed into some of the most delicious bites in Chicago. Of course, considering the number of places we almost included on the list, there will undoubtedly be a few places that you think should have been included. If you don't see a favorite on this list, just let us know in the comments so we can try it soon.
