Tips and tricks for making the best sandwiches at home.
Before I dig in, I have a couple semi-serious questions. Is any sandwich that touches a panini press a panini? And is any sandwich with at least one Italian-inspired meat an Italian sandwich? I wondered about both as I looked at the Italian Sandwich ($6.00) at Iguana Cafe. Sure, it vaguely resembles a sandwich one might find in Italy (well, it has prosciutto and provolone), but it also has elements of a cuisine I like to call pan-coffee shop.
Which also means I should loathe it. But it is thin and light, with a good ratio of salty prosciutto to fresh vegetables (though the former is far too thick). Also, unlike some gut-bomb grinders, it won't require a mandatory post-lunch nap. It's a small victory, I suppose, and only a decent sandwich, but at least it won't weigh you down.
