Tips and tricks for making the best sandwiches at home.
I'll admit that I kind of lost my cool during a review of L' Patron in Logan Square. It's just rare to find a corner taqueria executing so many dishes at such a consistently high level. Honestly, I had to leave a few worthy contenders off, because I worried the post was stretching on for too long. Which brings me to the torta pollo ($4.95).
Like the chicken taco, the torta is filled with exceptionally juicy hunks of chicken, which have nice char marks from the grill. A heap of crunchy lettuce adds texture, while some creamy refried beans help keep everything together. The only thing setting the sandwich back is the bread. As you can see from the picture, is just a tad too thick, making it hard to taste all the elements. A thinner roll would do wonders. In the meantime, I'd suggest ordering the carne asada instead.
