The menu at Frontera Fresco's newest location in Northwestern's Norris University Center proudly trumpets a wide selection of tacos and tortas. The guacamole and chips station beckons, as does the soft serve, where you can choose your own toppings.
With all that's on offer, it's easy to overlook the tamales on the menu. There are only two options, chipotle chicken and sweet corn and green chile ($4.50 each). In the case, the vegetarian option was much more intriguing, since I'd never had a ricotta-filled tamale before.
Unwrap the corn husk and dig into the comforting steamed cornmeal and light ricotta and creamy goat cheese filling. Juicy fresh corn kernels punctuate each bite with a touch of sweetness. A refreshing tomatillo salsa is the perfect accompaniment without overwhelming the subtle cheeses.
