It's official: doughnuts are a trend. In the past year and a half since we created this roundup, at least five new doughnut shops have opened (not even counting all four Glazed & Infused locations). Though unlike the recent cupcake trend (which seems to finally, at long last, be dying down), most of the new doughnut places popping up around town are frying up some seriously high quality products. At most of the shops I visited, it was hard to pick just one favorite, so the doughnuts featured here are by no means the best at each shop, though they are among the best.
I'd also like the record to show that when I found out March was going to be the Month of Breakfast, I excitedly proposed an oatmeal or yogurt roundup (mostly as some kind of atonement after last month's milkshake roundup). But when I received in reply the simply worded "How do you feel about doughnuts?" it wasn't a hard switch to make. Let's just say it's a good thing I didn't make any new year's resolutions.
