Tips and tricks for making the best sandwiches at home.
If you happen to live or work near one of The Roost's hangouts, then you're very lucky, because they don't mess around with their fried chicken sandwiches. This spicy chicken and cheddar biscuit ($4.50) is one of the better breakfast sandwiches I've had in Chicago.
The star of this sandwich is the biscuit. It is so buttery that ever since I ate it, I've been considering how many sticks of butter were used to make one biscuit. Just one! It's reminiscent of Popeye's biscuit on this level, but way more soft: it falls apart before you get your mouth on it.
It's no small piece of meat on here, and you really have to open up wide to eat it. The fried coating on the chicken is a bit soggy from sitting on the truck, but the spices on it make up for it. It's a subtle kick though, and even though the truck has a basket of hot sauce out for the taking, I recommend not using it. That's rare for me, but it totally overwhelms all the flavors.
