Tips and tricks for making the best sandwiches at home.
The second I saw Basil Leaf Cafe offered something with prosciutto, in this case the prosciutto mozzarella sandwich ($8.95), I had to order it. The addition of prosciutto can do wonders to any dish since it's packed with so much flavor, but most prosciutto sandwiches I've had have been conservative with the meat. I never really thought about why, other than it's expensive. But this one doesn't hold back—it's really piled on.
That tall stack of meat has such a strong flavor that it was a bit much upon first bite, but for anyone who's into prosciutto, it'll be appreciated by the second. Both the prosciutto and mozzarella taste nice and fresh, but I hoped to taste the balsamic vinegar more. I had to open up the sandwich to check it was actually there, nestled on top and soaked into the bread. Applied a bit more liberally, the whole thing could have been enhanced.
