Last time we checked in with The Nosh it was mid July and appropriately hot. But with the weather cooling off considerably, the weekly food festival in Wicker Park decided to embrace fall and host Chili Day, featuring a diverse collection of local restaurants.
Now, I'll admit up front that I'm usually leery of chili cook-offs, because all the contestants tend to focus less on putting together a well-rounded bowl and instead go for theatrics and incredible spice. But to my surprise there was no judge or jury here. That took the edge off the proceedings, allowing for a more amiable and relaxed atmosphere.
As is always the case with The Nosh, each vendor served both a full size version and a sample size, making it easy to try as many different dishes as possible. In other words, I was able to try most of the offerings, from Lindy's time-tested version to Kuma's boozy PBR-laced interpretation.
