Tips and tricks for making the best sandwiches at home.
I've written about Zaleski & Horvath MarketCafe before, but it, without a doubt, merits more acknowledgement; we at Serious Eats aim to eat a sandwich a day (see post title above), and Z&H easily has my favorite sandwich in Hyde Park.
When I ordered the Don't Tell Tal ($12.50), the cashier looked at me incredulously. She asked me if I knew how big the sandwich was. I lied and told her I did, and, besides, I was hungry. Well, truth be told, I'm dumb. Don't get me wrong. The sandwich was delicious. I just didn't come anywhere close to finishing it.
Simply put, this sandwich is pig on pig on pig on pig. Salty ham and some pretty thick-cut bacon sit between a thick layer of goat cheese and a rich slice of cheddar. The baguette was crackly as you'd expect a baguette to be, with a little more crunch imparted from the panini press. My only minor criticism would be the slathering of mustard on the sandwich. Otherwise, this sandwich is rich and decadent. It's perhaps a bit too big, but in a good way.
