Tips and tricks for making the best sandwiches at home.
Not all good sandwiches need to use inventive combinations and complicated ingredients. All a good sandwich needs is excellent ingredients that meld together well, and sometimes simplicity is the best way to show that. Craving an Italian sandwich, I headed to Letizia's Natural Cafe and chose the Dolce Vita ($7).
The sandwich arrives in just minutes and has that fresh smell of toasty bread. The baguette is filled with salty prosciutto, which is the dominant flavor in this sandwich, and it should be. Thick slices of tomato add some moisture and acid and shredded slices of basil are fresh and herby. The melted mozzarella is mild, but adds a bit more milky richness. I wouldn't mind a drizzle of olive oil or dare I say it, a spread of butter, but all in all it's the epitome of a simple, satisfying sandwich. And I left happy.
